WGS Dream and Ruby – A Quad Cortex Preset with Authentic Amp Feel

Hey everyone, quick update on the Dream and Ruby preset.

Let me be clear right up front. This is the unapologetically PNW preset. If you like subtle tones that politely sit in the mix, this is not for you. This preset is all about explosive wet effects. Reverbs and delays that do not behave. They surge, they bloom, and they react aggressively to your playing and your gain.

When you run the Dream or Ruby right on the edge of breakup, you unlock a massive amount of headroom and dynamic range. With the right boost, you can take what feels like a clean amp and absolutely blow it up. This is where these amps shine. UA nailed the front end compression in a way that feels musical and touch responsive, but still lets the amp go fully unhinged when you push it. When you slam wet reverbs and delays into them, they respond in a way I honestly have not experienced on any other amp platform.

My personal philosophy with wet effects is that they should grow with your gain. Traditionally, and even in V1 of Dream and Ruby, that meant automating effect levels so things got bigger when the gain went up. With the new V2 captures, that changes completely. The amp itself reacts to the wet effects. As you boost the amp, the reverbs and delays naturally bloom with it. No automation tricks. No workarounds. This was impossible for me to truly achieve in V1, and V2 finally makes it happen.

This preset also includes a V2 capture of the Jackson Audio Hourglass Compressor. Because of DSP limits, I could not include every V2 capture, but the Hourglass has been a standout for me. To my ears, it feels noticeably better than the stock compressors and just sits right under your playing.

I also added a few new tricks. There is a Freeze mode that replicates my Halo Core hold function, and a Whammy momentary switch because honestly, it is just awesome. The reverbs have been swapped for the new Core OS4.0 reverbs, and they are spectacular. I used Bloom constantly for swells when I ran a BigSky, and this absolutely nails that sound.

And if you are wondering, yes. This is now my number one preset. No question.
